Driven by the big data movement, many conversations about creating a data-driven organization begin by focusing on the acquisition and storage of data in all its forms. Data lakes are being created and data galore is flowing in. The issue immediately becomes: What could and should be done with all that data?
Side note: Storage is cheap. That doesn't mean managing and maintaining the data comes free.
In the end, the organization with the most data does not win. It is the organization that does the most with its data that will ultimately prevail. And herein lies the crux of the issue.
