Steer Clear of Google, Yahoo, German Journalists Advised
The German Federation of Journalists advised members to quit using
Google and Yahoo because those providers are vulnerable to U.S. and
British intelligence agencies. Citing "scandalous" reports, the warning
implored journalists to look elsewhere for both "research and digital
communication." The announcement was likely prompted by news that the
NSA had tapped into communications links used by Google and Yahoo.

Yuilop: Free-to-Mobile Calling and SMS - With a Catch
I know, from correspondence that I receive, that readers of this column
are pretty global, spread all over the world and in some pretty distant
places. That's why I was intrigued when I came across VoIP Android app
Yuilop. Here's an app that promises to provide the hitherto unknown Holy
Grail of international voice and text calling: free calls to overseas
cellphones.

FAA Relaxes In-Flight Mobile Rules
Travelers on domestic flights in the U.S. will soon face far fewer
restrictions on their in-flight use of mobile gadgets thanks to new
rules announced Thursday by the FAA. Previously, travelers were required
to shut off all devices with an on/off switch until the aircraft reached
10,000 feet, which typically was about 10 minutes into the flight.
Travelers also had to power down the devices for landing.

Hyperloop Project Revs Up
A project to build a super-high-speed transportation system in
California is gaining traction. JumpStartFund on Thursday revealed its
users had voted to select the official name, "Hyperloop Transportation
Technologies Inc.," for the company undertaking the challenge. aerospace
engineer Marco Villa, Ph.D., and civil engineer Patricia Galloway,
Ph.D., will lead the project.
