The Secrets of GTA's Massive Mainstream Success (20:53)
It's not every day that a video game becomes a mainstream tech story.
Then again, it's not every day that a video game promptly records $1
billion in sales. Grand Theft Auto V did just that, however, eclipsing
the 10-figure mark three days after its Sept. 17 release. The game's
success is an emphatic declaration that the GTA brand -- first
introduced in 1997 -- is still going strong.

Today's Story Highlights
Facebook Offers New Ways to Plumb Its Depths
Facebook announced Monday it was expanding its Graph Search to give
users a more complete experience, allowing searches of status updates,
photo captions, check-ins and comments. Graph Search rolled out to a
limited number of customers earlier this year. At first, it limited
searches to individual or brand profiles. The new functionality gives
users quicker access to a wider range of information.

iMotion Offers Game-Changing Potential With 3D Motion Control
For a glimpse at the future of gaming control, there are few places
better to look than iMotion. Intellect Motion's concept is to create a
large, motion-sensitive area in front of you while you're gaming -- a
kind of invisible, virtual touchscreen. Handheld controllers then
interact with that touchscreen. A movement of your hands controls the
game, and haptic feedback provides feel.

No Gold Star for Galaxy Gear
The first reviews of the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch have hit the
Internet and they are generally tepid. However, "I'm not sure how anyone
can give it a rating of anything until it is put through its paces over
time by consumers actually using it in real-life situations," said Larry
Chiagouris, a professor at Pace University. Many reviewers expressed
concern over the Gear's $300 price tag.

Roadblocks Stymie GTA's Online Launch
The launch of Grand Theft Auto V last month was a success by any
measure, but Tuesday's debut of GTA Online wasn't quite as smooth.
Rockstar Games itself predicted a buggy arrival for its game's online
counterpart and said it bought new servers ahead of time to support the
predicted demand, but on Tuesday players looking to commit online break-
ins and heists were all but locked out.

Symantec Paws at ZeroAccess Botnet
Symantec has removed more than 500,000 infected PCs from the botnet
created by the ZeroAccess Trojan, which uses a peer-to-peer mechanism --
the latest technique botnet authors have adopted to avoid having their
networks taken down by security experts. Symantec used a DNS sinkhole to
fight the ZeroAccess botnet. The attack "made a sizeable dent," said
Symantec security researcher Vikram Thakur.
