The Winter Olympics of Russia's Discontent (19:11)
The 1980 games "were quite interesting because Moscow was completely
cleaned up from any people who were deemed by the security services
potentially dangerous. All troublemakers or would-be troublemakers were
simply expelled from Moscow for the Olympic Games ... . People inside
the Russian secret services still think that this approach was very
effective, and we need to do something similar."

Today's Story Highlights
Windows 8.1 Could Get Some Love
Microsoft on Thursday began rolling out Windows 8.1 worldwide. This
latest update to its flagship OS has improved multitasking, improved
search, a redesigned Windows Store, and new and updated apps. The Start
button, which users have been clamoring for since Windows 8 was
released, has been restored.

Ubisoft Won't Be Letting the Watch Dogs Out
Ubisoft -- Europe's largest video game publisher -- might have a less-
than-merry holiday season. It announced Wednesday that two of its hotly
anticipated titles, Watch Dogs and The Crew , would be delayed until
sometime in 2014. Shares fell on the news by as much as 32 percent --
the most since Ubisoft made its debut on the Paris exchange in 1992.

How to Get Rid of Bloatware on Your Phone or PC
You know all those free programs that typically come on PCs and mobile
devices whether you want them or not? Common examples include paid
antivirus programs within the PC environment and phone company add-ons
like music stores within Android. Often called "bloatware," they are
usually manufacturer- or carrier-sanctioned stripped down come-ons
designed to get you to buy a subscription or upgrade.

Xnoise Makes Sweet Music - Once You Get It Installed
Xnoise is a new Linux Media Player for GTK+ environments that just keeps
getting better. Perhaps the last thing that the Linux world needs is yet
another media player, but Xnoise bridges the gap in this overcrowded
software category. It has an intuitive user interface, speed and
essential features. The latest version, 0.2.19, was released Sept. 17,
2013, and is not yet well-circulated.

Ahrendts Pick Bodes Well for a Fresh Apple Store Experience
I never would have imagined that I would jump on the bandwagon for the
CEO of a British luxury fashion company, but here I am preparing to gush
over Angela Ahrendts, who will take over Apple's retail store operations
in early 2014. Apple CEO Tim Cook made the announcement Monday, and the
first thing that came to mind was that the massively male executive team
at Apple was finally choosing a woman.
