Free Linux server distros are not a bargain if your operation requires high maintenance because the in-house staff is inadequate, suggested Jim Wasko, director of IBM's Linux Technology Center. "If the system must be maintained and supported, then you need to have someone to turn to for help with support and maintenance," he said. "You do not want to spend your time searching for answers or building fixes yourself."
