Someone to Watch Over You: London's Recycling-Bin Spies
In June, Renew London equipped a dozen recycling bins in England's
capital city with technology to track people's smartphones as they
milled about the city. The devices went largely unnoticed until the
appearance of an August article entitled, "This recycling bin is
following you." The piece set off a bit of a media storm as people
realized their every move was suddenly capable of being scrutinized and
stored away.

Today's Story Highlights
Sony's Lens Cameras Make Smartphone Photography Smarter
Sony introduced its QX10 and QX100 lens-style cameras on Wednesday. The
devices, which look like very thin point-and-shoot cameras, can connect
to a smartphone wirelessly and use the phone's display as a real-time
viewfinder. The QX units run Sony's PlayMemories Mobile app, which
allows an image shooter to use the phone's display to perform a variety
of tasks.

Video Game Rejuvenates Brains of Older Adults
A multitasking 3D video game that helped some older adults show
neurological activity similar to much younger adults could shed light on
the plasticity of the older brain. A UCSF research team recently tested
a 3D-driving game on a group of adults. The game play was designed to
elicit a multitasking response, which generates a certain interference
in the brain that increases with age.

Apple's Teenaged Nemesis Blows Its Big Reveal
Sonny Dickson, a teenager in Australia, leaked photos on his website
purportedly showing an Apple fingerprint scanner. The photos were
published less than one week before huge Apple events in California and
China. Dickson, whose roommates are Mom and Dad, has long leaked Apple
product info on his website. This most recent get, however, might be his
biggest yet.

LockedUSB Keeps Devices Safe While They Charge
It's late, and you're on your way home from a work trip on a subdued,
last flight of the day. You instinctively glance at your phone and
notice it's about to die. Been there? It's a problem, and if you don't
address it, you'll obviously have no battery for calls when you land.
Kindly, your seat neighbor and colleague offers you a charge using a USB
port on the laptop he's clacking away on.

Lost Droid Takes Stealth Seriously to Secure Your Phone
Having recently had my bicycle stolen -- after having a set of wheels
pilfered in a previous year -- I was getting mad and, to quote the 1976
movie Network , I was not going to be taking it anymore. I decided to
beef up my security both in general and on the replacement bike in
particular. I was going to invest in some security tech.
