Porn, the UK and Search Engines' 'Moral Duty' (18:00)
Britain's crusade against online pornography has ramped up. Prime
Minister David Cameron recently gave a speech saying the pornography was
"corroding childhood" and declared that every household in the UK should
have pornography blocked by Internet service providers -- unless, that
is, the homeowners specifically opt in to pornographic content.

Today's Story Highlights
The Technology Mysteries of 2013
There are a number of interesting mysteries in the technology world.
Somehow someone in China was killed by an iPhone, and someone made up a
nasty story about Lenovo and the Chinese government and got folks to
pick it up during the U.S. NSA scandal. One of the most powerful and
highly paid people in Apple quietly stepped down last month, possibly to
lead a search for the next iPod.

Bad Apple: China Investigating Alleged Supplier Pollution
In what amounts to a serious environmental breach or a continuation of
China's anti-Apple PR blitz -- or both -- Chinese regulators are
scrutinizing a pair of Apple suppliers in China over pollution
allegations. The factories in question, located in Kunshan, an
electronics manufacturing hotbed about 40 miles west of Shanghai, are
reportedly dumping large amounts of heavy metals into local rivers.

Canonical's Edgy Endeavor
Fans of Ubuntu will have to be forgiven if they've been a little
distracted lately. After all, exactly two weeks ago Canonical launched
its crowdfunding campaign for the new Ubuntu Edge smartphone. It's not
just any crowdfunding campaign, of course -- it's a big one. Really big
-- to the tune of $32 million. No one ever said Mark Shuttleworth lacked
ambition.

Cool FPS Nav Doesn't Rescue The Drowning's Sinking Vision
The Drowning is an evolutionary new first-person shooter iOS game. It
boasts a graphically rich post-apocalyptic world where an ecological
disaster has turned millions of people into naked-but-genderless zombie-
like monsters with bald skullish heads and claw hands. They try to kill
you. You try to survive by shooting them or bludgeoning them when they
get too close, and you have to reload.

Samsung's Galaxy Folder: Double the Screens, Double the Fun?
It's hardly surprising that Samsung is working on a brand-new smartphone
-- it is a device manufacturer, after all. What is surprising is the
form factor of this new device: It will reportedly be styled as a dual-
display flip phone -- similar, in other words, to the many other
clamshell devices that saturated the market before smartphones took
over.

Google May Drill Down to Neighborhood News
Google might be thinking about invading the hyperlocal news field with a
new beta service that dishes up location-based information to mobile
devices, perhaps including Google Glass. "I love the idea that when we
eventually all have our Google Glasses, [our] award-winning journalism
... will be popping up in front of eyeballs throughout town," said
Charlottesville Tomorrow's Brian Wheeler.

Dolling Up for High-Tech Child's Play
Barbie's gone digital. She's wearing a new dress outfitted with
programmable LED lights that let her change her look on a whim. "Today's
girl is tech-savvy, and we created a Barbie doll that utilizes
technology to provide a new way to play with Barbie," said Mattel.
"Girls will like this doll because it allows them to be creative and tap
into their inner fashion designer."
