Today's Story Highlights

Major US Media Succumb to Unsophisticated Syrian Hack Attacks
The Syrian Electronic Army on Thursday claimed credit for hack attacks
that took control of portions of a handful of major U.S. news sites via
an article-recommendation service they all use. SEA reportedly gained
control of them by entering an administration portal for Outbrain and
inserting links in some of the recommended articles at the bottom of the
Web page, thereby redirecting readers to its own site.

Reach Out and Touch Any Surface With Kinect-Based Ubi
Ubi Interactive, a graduate of the Microsoft Kinect Accelerator program,
has begun taking orders for software that will turn almost any surface
into a 3D touchscreen when combined with a Kinect device and a
projector. Numerous companies including Microsoft and Intel
have already been testing the software in a variety of applications for
conference-room presentations and beyond.

PRISM Prompts Deeper Probe of US Tech Players
China's Ministry of Public Security and a cabinet-level research center
are teaming up to probe IBM, Oracle and EMC over security issues. The
upcoming investigation could be more than a simple tit-for-tat in the
ongoing cybersaga between the U.S. and China. The probe follows Edward
Snowden's allegations that the National Security Agency hacked into
networks at universities in China and Hong Kong.

Voxer Gives Push-to-Talk a Multimedia Makeover
Voxer Pro Business turns your smartphone into a walkie-talkie.
Smartphone walkie-talkies are not new, of course -- Nextel, which got
swallowed by Sprint, used to offer a unique push-to-talk, or PTT,
walkie-talkie cellphone feature called "Direct Connect." Nextel's
simulated half-duplexing service mimicked walkie-talkies but ran over
spectrum similar to that used by cell networks.

Google Asks Search Users to Speak Up
Google is making a major push into voice search with the rollout of
several new capabilities, the company announced on Wednesday.
Specifically, over the coming days and weeks, English-speaking users
with voice search on desktops, tablets and smartphones will be able to
ask Google such common queries as, "Is my flight on time?" and get
answers instantly in Google Search.
