Virtualization: An IT Prescription for Healthcare Providers (32:12)
Healthcare providers know that technology can provide an answer to
higher operating costs and ailing efficiencies within their
organizations, but strict regulatory issues and other compliance matters
have always proved to be tough obstacles. The security of patient health
data, after all, must never be compromised in pursuit of greater
efficiencies. A mid-market health services provider in Indiana, however,
is offering up an example of how to make IT work for the industry.

Today's Story Highlights
New Robotic Data Center to Roam the World's Seas
Ocean data services provider Liquid Robotics on Monday announced the
latest addition to its Wave Glider SV line, which it claims is the
world's first unmanned oceangoing family of robot vessels that are both
wave and solar-powered. The Wave Glider SV3 is a slightly larger update
to its predecessor, the SV2, which has logged 300,000 miles on the
world's oceans in all weather conditions.

OpenStack Gives the Open Source Cloud a Lift
Since its start in the summer of 2010, the OpenStack open source cloud
computing project has been the subject of a lot of hype. Today, the
technology, backers and users of OpenStack are giving substance to all
of that sizzle, and skepticism is giving way to service provider and
enterprise use cases across the globe. OpenStack is relatively immature
and still requires a high degree of technical aptitude to deploy, but
its community continues to grow.

Mali Kicks Off Internet Domain Giveaway
It was time to try something new. The western Africa nation of Mali,
whose .ml domain current has fewer than 50 active websites, will let
people around the world register .ml sites for free. Less than half of
Mali has mobile phone coverage, and just 4 percent of the population is
online. Nevertheless, it will give away its domain starting in July.

Boom Goes the Social Media Marketing Dynamite
Two-way social-media channels, like Twitter and Facebook, have changed
forever the methods businesses use to communicate with their customers.
Fading into the distance are the days of the one-sided official
dispatch. Social media marketing has been welcomed with open arms into
the fold, with corporations determined to make it an effective tool.

Doo Doesn't Quite Do the Trick
We have entered the Golden Age of storage. At no time in the past have
we had more freedom over where we can stash our digital stuff. We've got
internal hard drives with a terabyte or more of storage space. We've got
solid state drives that give us quick access to our data. We've got
thumb drives with a gigabyte or more space, and we've got
free cloud storage from multiple vendors.
