How to Drink from the Big Data Firehose Without Drowning (45:30)
Trends in IT are opening up new frontiers in the enterprise, and that is
forcing information architects to jettison old ways of thinking about
the volume and speed of the data that's streaming into their
organizations. It's not just how to store and study all that
information, but how it ties into their security procedures, their
mobile workforce, and how much to store in the cloud.

Today's Story Highlights
I Want My M-WiFi
Looking for an Internet connection when out and about may soon become a
lot easier. There's been an uptick in public WiFi availability. Recent
public WiFi launches include Google's free WiFi project in New York
City, starting with parts of Chelsea. London's tube network went hot in
2012 with 92 underground stations WiFi-enabled; Virgin Media is
connecting a further 28 stations by the end of March, 2013.

Bribery Investigation Rumors Haunt ZTE
Chinese telecom ZTE may have ended 2012 in the red, but a new report
alleges there was enough in the coffers for bribes. ZTE's Mongolia
office is being investigated for bribery, according to China's IT
Business News. Mongolian anti-corruption officials have already
unearthed proof of bribes doled out for the country's national digital
education project, the outlet also reported.

Alfred Offers Bat-tastic Productivity for Mac Owners
We can't all have the riches of Bruce Wayne. However, Mac owners can
have a virtual version of his faithful servant, Alfred. Like Wayne's
invaluable butler, this free productivity app is also named "Alfred." Its
version 2.0, released this month, is more useful than ever.

Judge Throws the Book at AT&T Hacker 'Weev'
Andrew Auernheimer, a hacker known as "Weev," was sentenced Monday to 41
months in prison for obtaining the personal data of more than 100,000
iPad owners from AT&T's publicly accessible website and sending the
information to the media. The ruling immediately sparked an outcry from
a digital rights group that claims the punishment does not fit the
crime.

Security Letters' Constitutionality May Head to Supreme Court
A U.S. District Court judge from the Ninth Circuit found that the
government's controversial use of so-called National Security Letters
violates the First Amendment and the concept of separation of powers.
U.S. District Judge Susan Illston ordered the government to stop issuing
the National Security Letters and to stop enforcing the gag order.
Illston then stayed her order for 90 days so the government could
petition the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
