| Sprint shakes off Nextel, joins SoftBank | Sprint is close to doing away with its nearly eight-year partnership with Nextel. By the end of the first half of 2013, the U.S.' third-largest wireless carrier will drop Nextel's service and moniker from its brand. In the meantime, it will merge with SoftBank, a Japanese telecommunications company, which will bolster up Sprint's finances and network deployment.
