With a big RF transmitter and enough fast computing power, you have the
ability to do a lot of different things, as evidenced by a General
Electric presentation on "software-defined radar" at the GPU conference
this year.

At GTC 13 last year, GE gave a standing-room-only presentation about
how it's using RDMA (Remote Direct Memory Access) to drive multi-GPU
process performance to new heights. The firm was back this year to talk
about new and innovative applications of GPU tech it has cooked up over
the past year.

The VDI talk was the kind of GTC session I love. It's where a
real-world expert talks about how a difficult task is actually
accomplished. Not the theory, not how it should work on paper, but what
it takes to actually move a project from Point "A" to Point "We're done
with this".

Ken Fingerlos from Lewan Technology delivered in spades with his
"Virtual is Better than Physical: Delivering a Delightful User
Experience from a Virtual Desktop" GTC14 session. Delightful? Hmm…In my
past lives, I've had to use some virtual PCs and my experience ranged
from "absolutely unusable" to "omg I hate this".

Nvidia has announced its next-generation GPU, and with it a new
interconnect it dubs NVLink that it says will increase the bandwidth
among GPUs – and also CPUs, should a processor designer implement it –
over that of PCIe by five to twelve times.

String a bunch of GPUs together with NVLink, and you effectively create
a single hella-big GPU

Google co-founder Larry Page has said he was "disappointed" with the US
government after NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden revealed just how
much the agency was snooping on everybody.

"It is disappointing that the government secretly did this stuff and
didn't tell us about it," Page said on stage at the TED Conference.
