After taking it on the chin for its alleged attacks on U.S. media
outlets -- and for its army reportedly backing hackers engaged in
cyberespionage around the world -- China returned fire. The government
claimed its defense and military ministries' websites are being
bombarded with 144,000 hacking attacks a month from the U.S.

Lights, Camera, Console: Xbox Premieres 1st Original Movie
A comedy film called Pulp will skip theaters and DVDs and instead
premiere on the Xbox 360 -- the first time a feature-length film has
ever been distributed exclusively on the video game console. The film
chronicles the adventures of a comic book publisher recruited by police
to stop a crime syndicate.

IBM: Giving Open a Smarter Strategic Advantage
IBM just announced SmartCloud Orchestrator -- a massive open source
initiative designed to help companies better balance public and private
cloud resources and even switch vendors. This is in sharp contrast to
the lock-in strategy that IBM used to found the technology segment --
largely because IBM learned the hard way that lock-in, while tactically
sound, is strategically stupid.

or with a slicker design. Usually, I expect a combination of these

Hackathon's Goal: A Game That Scores for Cancer Research
A UK-based charity is sponsoring a weekend hackathon, but those invited
won't be using their coding talents to advance any business causes. The
40 programmers, gamers, graphic designers and other specialists will
spend the time designing a smartphone game that can let average users
help with cancer research.
